Webinar: Creating Magic in Lockdown
Come and join the Medusa Collective as they talk about producing their new feminist opera Folk Tales in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Folk Tales is a new opera by Medusa Collective which premiered at 2020’s Tête-à-Tête opera festival. Featuring an animated set by Chloe Rodham, it follows the stories of women and non-binary figures in folklore and mythology as they reclaim their stories on their own terms. Although the music performed is acoustic in nature, it stems from music technology, with software techniques such as spectral analysis used in its composition.
This session will give participants the chance to talk about the integration of electronic and acoustic means of generating music and performance, as well as the practicalities of staging and developing a new work as the performing arts shifts to a new normal. The session will also involve time for Q&A with musicians, composer and librettist.
Session hosts:
Helene Mathiesen – Producer and Soprano
Charlotte Marlow – Composer
Sophie Cameron – Violinist
Caroline Hardaker – Librettist
