Make Music With Light And Electronics
For ages 16-18
Saturday 17 & Sunday 18 August, 10am-3pm
Learn to build your own noise machine and make your own soundscapes!
This weekend workshop is a hands-on DIY audio electronics session for beginners where you will build your very own noise machine and experiment with radio sampling to make your own soundscapes.
A noise machine is a simple synthesiser circuit that makes a buzzing droning electronic sound. The light sensor changes the tone of the sound. You’ll learn about electronic components, how a circuit works and build your own instrument. In the second day, you will experiment with your instrument and also explore sampling to record audio content to create your own soundscape piece using Ableton music software.
Activities:
• Learn about electronic circuits, signal flow and components
• Experience DIY approaches to music making
• Study and discuss sound art history, including its links to the Russian avant garde, and learn about the theremin, noise machines and radio art
• Learn to use Ableton and the Ableton Push Controller and develop insight into production software to create soundscapes
• Learn sampling techniques using the Ableton Push Controller, including chopping, looping and sequencing
Workshop leader info:
Vicky Clarke is a sound artist and electronic musician working with handmade electronic instruments and sound sculpture.
