Process and Practice
Studio holders at WYPW have created an exhibition which shares with audiences the artists’ working methods and creative processes. This unique project will include new collaborations, participatory activities for the public, artists’ talks and professional development events for artists. The exhibition opens on 26th March and continues until 7th May.
7 artists, all of whom have studios at WYPW, will be ‘in-residence’ in the gallery space for two days each during the exhibition, offering visitors an opportunity to engage with them as they develop new work. Each artist is committed to sharing their process and practice through a series of talks, demonstrations and workshops, reflecting the diversity of methods from drawing and prinmaking, to sculpture and installation.
In addition to visitors being able to see an exhibition evolve over 6 weeks, there are opportunities for adults, children, young people and families to participate in a variety of activities. An exciting mix of workshops is programmed throughout the project.
Studio holders include practitioners at various stages of their career. All are
professional artists engaged in showing work in galleries, working to private and public commissions, delivering community arts projects and/or working in education.
The project has been made possible by Lottery funding from Arts Council England through Grants for the Arts, with support from staff at West Yorkshire Print Workshop. It is hoped that this is the first of many events which celebrate the creative industries in Mirfield and give opportunities for local people to engage with professional artists.
