Spectacular Showcase of Textile Innovation
The Spectacular Showcase of Textile Innovation will shine a spotlight on the incredible scientific and creative innovation taking place in the textile industry today. Scientists, businesses and artists are continually exploring how to make the industry more sustainable and environmentally friendly and this is your opportunity to find out how they are doing it.
On Friday 14 June we will focus on how this innovation has created a thriving industry in Kirklees and highlight the diverse careers that the industry now offers. Come and find us at our info point on the University plaza. Or to book your group or school to visit please use this form: https://woveninkirklees.co.uk/schools-invite/
There will be talks from Alan Cannon Jones, with 50 years of experience in the fashion industry and as a teacher at the London College of Fashion, from Julia Roebuck from Upcycle Fashion on the sustainable fashion revolution and from Paris Goswami on how scientific developments in textiles are being applied in areas far beyond clothing.
The Textile Centre of Excellence will also be hosting a Careers Fair on Friday from 1:30pm to showcase the many different roles and jobs that are available in the thriving industry that exists within the district. We will be operating a shuttle bus to take you from one site to another.
Also on offer on both Friday and Saturday are free workshops on up-cycling, using conductive thread and contemporary embroidery.
