INTERWOVEN
INTERWOVEN celebrates, through music and performance, the rich heritage of North Kirklees’ shoddy and mungo textile industry and its connections to present day environmental issues in the modern textile industry.
Join us at Dewsbury Minster on Friday 6 May from 7.30pm for a night of music, dance and poetry that culminates in the premier of a new piece of music written especially for the project and inspired by the textile industry stories of local people. The music will be performed by an ensemble of tabla and harmonium from Qaisar Mehmood Qawwal, brass from Hanson Arts and Dewsbury born folk singers Ruth and Sadie Price. It will bring together and celebrate the diverse cultural and musical landscape that has developed in Kirklees as a result of the people who have worked in its textile industry.
Also performing on 6 May will be Batley poet Ahmad Lunat who will read, in Gujarati and English, a new piece of poetry inspired by the project, dance piece Morris Natham and local folk singer Maddie Morris.
