Food and South Downs Fair
Don’t miss the very best tastes of the south east this May Day Bank Holiday Sunday and Monday at the Weald & Downland Open Air Museum at Singleton, near Chichester, West Sussex. The Food and South Downs Fair promises to be an extra special treat for food and drink lovers everywhere, with a mouth-watering array of delicious local produce to sample and buy, and the 2nd ‘Downland Cookery Challenge’ – a competition for amateur cooks across the region, with the final ‘cook-off’ taking place live on the Sunday.
The Food and South Downs Fair is extremely popular with visitors and exhibitors alike, with more than 80 producers from the region presenting a stunning array of local fare, from wines, sauces, ciders and beers to locally-produced meat, cheese, ice cream, cakes and confectionery. As well as the opportunity to browse and buy, there will be a number of talks and cooking demonstrations over the two days.
This event also showcases the work of the South Downs National Park Authority, downland rural life, with displays of farming implements, and a number of demonstrations including a living-history group. As well as caring for rescued historic buildings, the Museum undertakes many aspects of traditional farming, highlighting the importance of agriculture to our rural ancestors.
