Midsummer Magic - An evening of light music

What better way to spend an evening than listening to songs about life and love? From true love to a “roll in the hay”, we’ll be roving across genres, from traditional madrigals via their more recent jazzy counterparts to Musical Theatre. With music from George Shearing, the famous jazz pianist and composer; Irish composer Charles Villiers Stanford; John Rutter, the giant of choral music, to Richard Rogers – of Rogers and Hammerstein fame. The lyrics come from similarly varied sources, with a good dose of Shakespeare, a little Mary Elizabeth Coleridge, and a little Victor Hugo (Les Miserables of course). Who will have the final word on love? – Shakespeare or ABBA. You decide.
