Teechers
Saturday 12 October, 7.30pm & Sunday 13 October, 2.30pm & 7.30pm
Teechers is a play by John Godber, written in 1987. It was first performed by the Hull Truck Theatre Company. It is a play within a play in which three students put on a performance to their teachers and fellow pupils. Everything in the play is reduced to the bare essentials, with very little set and the three actors playing twenty other parts.
School leavers, Salty, Hobby and Gail perform to the audience an account of their time in Secondary School specifically their time with Mr. Nixon, the new drama
teacher who ignites their passion for the stage with his idealism and belief that all children should be treated equally. At the end of the play he leaves Whitewall High School to teach at St George’s, another school with a much better reputation.
This play is fast-paced and packed with characters from the super strict Mr Basford to “Oggy Moxon” the school bully to keep you entertained throughout. It will leave you laughing one moment and thoughtful the next.
Teechers is the second production to come from this up and coming Hertfordshire based theatre company, following their sell-out debut show Bouncers earlier in 2013.
