Diversification of Excogitation Exhibition
Saturday 9th March – Thursday 25th April 2019
Trestle welcomes a creative collaboration between two local artists Maureen Masterman and Susan Pilborough.
Maureen is a mixed media artist, using a variety of printmaking techniques including etching, screen printing and collographs in her work.
Her love of colour and texture sees her current work consisting of collages created from her own printed papers and fabrics. She uses a variety of objects to produce marks, portraying a creative journey which has no definite or known end point. A passion for experimenting has led her to explore rusting and stitching most recently.
“A lot of the pieces can be viewed landscape or portrait, whichever way you want. Depending on how the work is hung, I see different things in each one – what can you see?”
Life and nature inspire Susan and act as her sourcebooks, triggering her intuitive imagination. She develops visual responses to abstracted forms with ambiguity, tactile and textual elements.
Susan likes to explore various mediums but is frequently drawn back to the tactility of working with fabric, repeated forms and the essence of fragility. The variance within her work and the materials she uses are important aspects, offering variable and individual interpretations.
“I tend not to give explanations to my work so that viewers have the freedom of their own interpretation, imagination and understanding”
