New Music in the South West: The Peter Randall-Page Concert

New Music in the South West: The Peter Randall-Page Concert

6pm
Tickets £10 | Seniors, Under 18s and Students £7

A unique concert of music written in response to the work of one of the UK’s most important sculptors.

Peter Randall-Page’s work has been exhibited across the world and is represented in the permanent collections of the Tate Gallery and the British Museum. Now, NMSW has invited some of our best composers to write new pieces in response to Peter’s work including Rorschach Screen, Seed and Granite Song.

The centre piece of the event will be a major new work by Jim Aitchison inspired by Rorschach Screen which will be installed in the hall specially for the occasion. Jim is well known for his work exploring the interface between music and art and has worked on projects with artists including Gerhard Richter, Antony Gormley and Anish Kapoor. His piece Rorschach Inventions will receive its première alongside new works by Andy Keenan, Carmen Ho, David Greenhorne and Lois Wyatt.

The evening will also feature Peter and Jim discussing their work and the relationship between music and art, and audience members will have the rare opportunity to put their own questions to them in an informal Q&A session after the concert.

The programme, performed by Lionel Handy (cello), Andy Keenan (sax./clarinets) and Harriet Riley (marimba), will also feature music by Steve Reich, Gyögy Ligeti and Dave Samuels.
