Earth Talk: Gross National Happiness
8pm
Tickets £5 | Concessions £4
Gross National Happiness (GNH) is the alternative development paradigm created and implemented in Bhutan, which prioritizes Happiness and Wellbeing of all people and life forms as the purpose of development. It has been successfully implemented in Bhutan at the national level for several decades, and more and more countries are using more holistic measurement tools to monitor their progress. But the current dominant economic system and the many businesses that are a part of it, seem to be pursuing very different goals, including profit at all cost, regardless of the consequences for society and the planet. For GNH to be applicable in developed countries, it would require businesses to align with and operate in accordance with GNH values and principles. Is this at all possible in the current economic environment?
Based on recent experiences of the GNH Centre Bhutan we will outline the general framework of GNH and describe, based on two actual case studies (from USA and Thailand), how GNH can and is being implemented in the business context.
