The golden-toned soprano Emma Kirkby leads a beautiful programme of instrumental and vocal works, including lieder by Mozart, Haydn, Weber, Mertz and Schubert, exploring the ‘quiet revolution’ of the early classical style.

Emma Kirkby is one of the world’s most renowned early music specialists, singing on well over a hundred recordings. Her pure, crystalline voice, her natural declamation, agile colatura and sensitivity to words have set the standard for the interpretation of Renaissance, Baroque and early classical music. In 2011 she was awarded the Queen’s Medal for Music, in recognition of her major influence on the musical life of the nation.

Mozart Variations for fortepiano on “Ah vous dirai-je Maman” K265; Als Luise; Das Veilchen; Dans un bois solitaire et somber
Haydn She never told her love; The spirit's song; My mother bids me bind my hair; O tuneful voice
Weber Meine Lieder, Meine Sänge; Die Zeit; Die Schäferstunde
Mertz guitar solos: Lied ohne Worte; An Malvina (from Bardenklänge Op. 13)
Schubert Ständchen; Meeresstille; Hänflings Liebeswerbung; Lachen und Weinen; Lied der Mignon; Der Jüngling an der Quelle; Der Blinde Knabe; An Sylvia
