The sublime, bittersweet String Quintet in C major was written in the last weeks of Schubert’s life, and it is considered one of his greatest, transcendent works. The Heath Quartet and cellist Adrian Brendel come together to perform this masterpiece for Dartington in the magical late-night atmosphere of the Great Hall.

Incidentally, the Adagio from the Quintet is the most selected work on Desert Island Discs!

See the Heath Quartet perform Haydn, Bartók and Tchaikovsky on 15 August at 7.45pm, and Mozart and Rautavaara (with Adrian) on 19 August at 10pm.
