Dartington Playgoers: Hard Times
7.30pm
Tickets £12 / Students & Unwaged £8
Dartington Playgoers are pleased to present “Hard Times” - a new adaptation of the novel by Charles Dickens. Devised and performed by the Coketown Heritage Interpretation Collective (C.H.I.C.) this lively and modern presentation will take place in Studio 31 @ The Hexagon - our new home on the Dartington Estate.
The themes of Dickens shortest novel, which this adaptation focus on, are education, love, creativity and the unexpected results of “good intention”. Whilst, of course, being unable to resist a commentary on the nature of life for many in Victorian England, Dickens weaves a compelling, and at times, tragic, narrative, resplendent as always with curious, and frequently ridiculous, characters. What is striking is how many of his themes are still very relevant to our shaping of our social environment today.
