Botanical Dreams
Thursday 5th, Friday 6th and Saturday 7th May, 10am - 4pm each day
£200
Join Jane Gleeson, Head Gardener at Schumacher College and guest Indigo expert Katherine May for a stimulating creative workshop looking at designing and planting a craft garden. You will also learn techniques in indigo dyeing and shibori using natural plant dyes. Jane Gleeson studied and worked at Royal Botanic Gardens Kew for three years and then taught Horticulture at Hadlow College in Kent. Before coming to Schumacher she taught part time whilst running her own local garden maintenance business.
Katherine May is a textile designer and researcher, who brings together all the aspects of textile production with her work: growing the dye, sourcing the material, and using the dye-water to maximum potential. Her interest in the life-cycle of materials has inspired experiments with growing dye plants to colour cloth, tracing the journey from seed to cloth. Katherine's installation, Water-Colour, aimed to raise awareness of water consumption within the industry and promote alternative, more sustainable methods of textile production.
