The Picture of Dorian Gray
Fresh from a West End run of The Trials of Oscar Wilde, European Arts Company returns with a thrilling adaptation of Wilde’s only novel The Picture of Dorian Gray. Set in the decadent world of Victorian London, a beautiful, narcissistic young man called Dorian Gray becomes infatuated by the exquisite portrait that Basil Hallward has painted of him.
He makes a Faustian pact that he will remain forever young while the picture grows old. Combining drawing room comedy and Gothic horror, this is a gripping and hugely entertaining theatrical event.
‘Gothic and comedy are rarely terms you hear in the same sentence but not so in this hilarious stage reworking of Oscar Wilde’s allegorical novel. Director Jonny Kemp’s undoubted Monty Python influence, with cross-dressing aristocracy and two fingers to English pomposity, worked a treat’. Herts and Essex News
