Mrs Lowry & Son is a biographical drama film set in Salford, Greater Manchester, chronicling the life of the renowned artist L. S. Lowry. It reveals the eternally attentive perma-bachelor Lowry (Timothy Spall), - rent-collector by day, attic artist by night - suffocating socially while he tends to his bed-bound mother, Elizabeth (Vanessa Redgrave). Cruelly belittling his art, and desperately dissuading her bachelor son from pursuing his ambitions, she never fails to voice her opinion at what a disappointment he has been to her.
