Merganser ducks swim with perch in a Botticcelli pond was inspired by an Egyptian painting I had seen, Botticcelli’s treatment of the sea in the painting The Birth of Venus and school trips to Foxton Locks, Leicestershire. I loved the ducks, water lilies, reeds and catching little fish. I liked the idea of the perch being somewhat alarmed by the presence of the ducks. A bit like sneaky submarines, but the other way up!
