Temporary Contemporary in Queensgate Market
The Temporary Contemporary Initiative project has emerged through a partnership between the traders at Queensgate Market, Kirklees Council (Markets and Creative Economy Teams) and the School of Art, Design and Architecture, University of Huddersfield.
The Temporary Contemporary initiative places contemporary art within vacant spaces within Queensgate Market and is transforming vacant stalls into gallery spaces, where students, lecturers, local artists and creative businesses can showcase their creative talents.
As the Temporary Contemporary initiative evolves, other smaller projects and spaces will pop up around the market, collaborations with organisations and activity will take place and a central physical space to find out what is going on will be created.
The three spaces within the Temporary Contemporary initiative are:
Market Hardware:
Programmes of work by students at the University of Huddersfield
Market Gallery:
Presenting the work of lecturers, researchers and artists working with the University
Market Showcase:
An open application process for artists working locally to exhibit and showcase their work in vacant stalls in the Market
