Market Gallery: An exhibition of paintings by Ryan Durrant
Ryan Durrant’s paintings explore the effects of repetition, from the transformation of the singular original subject into multiples, from isolation to collective ‘principles of individuation’. Engaging in the processes of ‘repeat’, the original is simultaneously destroyed and reaffirmed. The vagaries of ‘likeness’ and realities of ‘difference’ become apparent through the paintings on display in this exhibition and provide a commentary on the importance of the individual part and its relationship to the whole.
Ryan Durrant graduated from Newcastle University (BA Hons Fine Art) in 1992. In 1994 he co-founded Bow Arts Trust Studios in London, where he worked until moving to Yorkshire in 2012. He has exhibited across the UK and internationally and has numerous works in private collections.
