The Paper Cooperative
This summer Spacex presents The Paper Cooperative, a family friendly exhibition that offers the opportunity to explore the use of paper. With free self-guided activities, daily workshops, interactive sculptures, artists books and a cafe, visitors of all ages are invited to explore, make and experiment with paper.
Paper Labour is a new interactive art work by London based design collective Household. The installation highlights the use of paper in our day-to-day lives. Three large scale interactive sculptures, an envelope, a book and a paper bag, are open to explore and offer space to make your own booklets. Also included is the Paper Museum, this houses an evolving selection of paper objects collected by Household, with an open invite for visitors to contribute their own paper creations.
There is a collection of artists’ books and 'zines exploring the variety of techniques employed in self publishing today. Some are to be observed while others are to be handled. The contributions come from a number of artists including Tom Sowden, Emily Speed and Georgia Russell.
Workshops take place at 11am Tuesday through Saturday, until 27 August. From paper animation and paper floristry to making your own paper, there are workshops to suit all ages and interests.
A temporary café provides a space to relax with a selection of drinks and muffins on offer. This area is decorated with a variety of handmade signs, created by students of Exeter College with local illustrator Patrick Cullum. Free activities are available at all times in the café, with opportunity to make paper birds, garlands and much more, our two friendly hosts are always on hand to offer support.
