The March
Celebrating the centenary of women getting the vote in Parliamentary elections, local theatre company Pins & Feathers’ new play, The March, is based on the stories of Hertfordshire women who fought for change – from Suffragette Lady Constance Lytton of Knebworth, who endured prison and force-feeding, to the non-militant suffragists who campaigned in every town and village.
The play features the extraordinary Great Pilgrimage of 1913, in which hundreds of people from all over the country marched to London, demonstrating peaceful mass support for the vote.
On 23rd July 1913 the marchers arrived in Ware and held a huge public meeting to argue their case for women’s rights, making this a fascinating event in our local history.
The March is an entertaining and thought-provoking play, with music and humour, suitable for age 11 upwards
