Launch Event: Smooth Space-Torre Abbey Artist's Residency

An exciting new project is launching at Torre Abbey this Saturday. Torquay's oldest building - the 13th century Abbey and its monastery gardens will be the setting for a year-long residency run by Smooth Space in partnership with Torre Abbey.

Newly reopened after Phase II of a major restoration programme, the Abbey will host Smooth Space artist Kate Paxman until June 2015. Kate will have a unique opportunity to explore the buildings and gardens, the important collections and archive and will also be able to experience the fascinating work that goes on behind the scenes.
Part-gallery, part-museum and part-historic house, the building has witnessed 800 years of Torquay's history and with its rich array of material is an outstanding venue for an artist to investigate.
