Shepley Singers
CONCERT WITH SHEPLEY SINGERS AND FRIENDS
St Paul’s Church Saturday May 17th 2014
Shepley Singers, Frumptarn Guggenband, Erin Steward, Paul Arthur, Bryony Griffith and Will Hampson, White Rose Morris Men, Ella Hampson, William and Pippa Noble.
It was a great evening of music, dance and song from a host of local talent. The church was full and the evening started off with a carnival atmosphere and a lively set from the Frumptarn Guggenband. White Rose Morris Men followed with a short but energetic dance display. Erin Steward (violin) and Ella Hampson (melodeon) both aged 10 showed us that our traditional music will be safe in the hands of the next generation. The variety of local musical talent continued with a piece from Paul Arthur on the church organ and 2 of the songs from Shepley Singers’ spring repertoire.
After the break for refreshments and raffle the concert continued with nationally and locally renowned duo Bryony Griffith and Will Hampson. Next,William Noble probably best known in the village for his walling skills, and wife Pippa gave us a handful of unaccompanied Yorkshire songs. That the Shepley Singers thoroughly enjoy their music was evident from their smiles as they took to the stage to sing again. The evening was brought to a close with ‘Pratty Flowers’ led by Will Noble and sung by everyone.
Thanks to everyone who came along to share the evening, to all those who helped bring it together, to all the performers and to Will Hampson and especially Bryony Griffith for their involvement and commitment.
