Paul Burston hosts the award-winning LGBTQ+ literary salon Polari online. In this event, specially curated for Sangam Festival, he presents a stellar line-up of South Asian authors and poets, featuring Nikita Gill, Golnoosh Nour and Mohsin Zaidi.
Paul Burston is the author of six novels and several non-fiction books. Paul is curator and host of award-winning LGBTQ+ literary salon Polari and founder of The Polari First Book Prize for debut writers and The Polari Prize for established writers. In 2016, he featured in the British Council’s Global List of “33 visionary people promoting freedom, equality and LGBT rights around the world”
Nikita Gill is a poet and writer. Born in Belfast to Indian parents, her family moved back to New Delhi when Gill was a few months old, and she grew up an was educated there. She now lives in the south of England. She has published seven volumes of poetry and has been described as “one of the most exciting young writers working today.” Her latest book is Where Hope Comes From, which was a Sunday Times bestseller. Golnoosh Nour is the author of The Ministry of Guidance and Other Stories, which is longlisted for The Polari Prize 2021. Her poetry collection Rocksong will be published in October 2021 by Verve Poetry Press. Her work has also been published in Granta, Columbia Journal, and selffuck amongst others. Golnoosh has performed her work across the UK and internationally. She teaches Creative Writing at the University of Reading. Mohsin Zaidi is an award-winning author, commentator and lawyer. His critically acclaimed memoir, A Dutiful Boy (Penguin, 2020) won a Lambda Literary award and was named a Guardian, GQ, and New Statesman Book of the Year. A Dutiful Boy is longlisted for The Polari First Book Prize 2021. An advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, BAME representation and social mobility, Mohsin sits on the board of Stonewall and is listed by The Financial Times as a top future LGBT leader.
