Hoe Garden Public Art Commission
Hoe Garden Public Art Commission
Deadline for applications: Monday 6 April 2015
Installation of artwork: Monday 15 June 2015
Artist Fee: £7000
Plymouth City Council is seeking applications for a new contemporary public artwork from artists based in the South West region.
In partnership with Plymouth Culture, this is an exciting new commission for an artwork to be sited in a prime location on Plymouth’s iconic waterfront.
The selected artwork will be sited in the Hoe Garden for up to one year with the possibility of a permanent relocation within the city.
There is an ambition for the project to develop into an annual commissioning programme focused around themes that explore and celebrate Plymouth’s unique history.
This year’s theme is Edward Stanley Gibbons. Born in Plymouth in 1840, Edward was the founder of Stanley Gibbons Ltd – publishers of the famous Stanley Gibbons stamp catalogue and a variety of other related publications. Today, the company is widely regarded as the home and market leader of stamp collecting.
Budget
The total budget for the commission is £7000 including artist time and fees, all travel and expenses, materials and construction, installation and removal costs.
