Live Midweek Music - Pernambucos Brazilian Guitar Band

The Pernambucos are an acoustic instrumental band playing the guitar music of Joao Texeira Guimaraes (aka. Pernambuco), 1883-1947. This music is perhaps less well known than the later Brazilian ‘Samba’ or ‘Bossa Nova’, and is characterised by it’s own distinctive ‘choro’ rhythm, and ‘ragtime’ style chord structures and use of the diminished scale. Joyous and up-lifting music, wonderfully tuneful and melodic yet slightly melancholy at the same time.

If you have an appreciation both of the blues and ragtime and of Brazilian guitar, then The Pernambucos are well worth checking out.
