Art: Impressionistic Garden Painting
This is a practical and exploratory course, based on understanding and applying an 'impressionistic' painting style, to the popular subject of the garden. Gardens have been important for various Impressionist painters - as a subject in themselves, through their details and as a backdrop to figures, activity and events. We will analyse visual sources and focus on creating visual effects, such as fleeting impressions of light, movement and / or atmosphere within garden themes, rather than on capturing every detail. This online course will include group discussion, experimental work, activities guided by your tutor, demonstration, analysis of established artists' work, reflection and the development of unique, considered imagery. Inspiration will be taken from a variety of sources and you will have the opportunity to select and use your own source materials, including direct observation. We will focus on working in acrylic / oil paints or pastels, as well as using graphite pencils.
