Saturday Arts Club go back to School

Plymouth College of Art has secured funding for its Saturday Arts Club and is ready to kick start a new program for the autumn.

Benefitting from funding by the Sorrell Foundation, the National Saturday Arts Club offers 14-17 year olds the change to take part in a wide range of activities in the College’s art, design, and media studios.

Alan Lemin, Head of Educational Partnerships said: “There are places offered in Saturday Arts Club for young people who want to be creative outside of the school timetable.”

Students have access to specialist facilities at the College in subjects such as photography, sculpture, digital graphics, media production, textiles, printmaking, graphic design, drawing and painting.

Mr Lemin added: “This year we are seeking students between the ages of 14-17 who would benefit from the experience and be interested and dedicated enough to work with us on this brilliant collaborative venture”.

The College has secured the backing of the prestigious London-based Sorrell Foundation for the second year running.

The National Art and Design Saturday Club was launched last year at art colleges in Plymouth, Leeds, Hereford and Cleveland.

Sir John and Lady Frances Sorrell, who run the foundation, support the development of Saturday Arts Clubs in colleges up and down the country and gave their backing to a successful pilot year at the four specialist colleges of art.

During the first pilot, students were provided with master classes and opportunities to work in London at ‘design days’ and held an exhibition of their work at Somerset House.

The Saturday Arts Club takes place on Saturdays between 10am and 2pm, running over a 30 week academic year.
