&Piano Music Festival Event 3 - An Evening of Song
Featuring:
Poems of Emily Dickinson - Aaron Copland
Dichterliebe (A Poet's Love) - Robert Schumann
and a selection of songs by
Clara Schumann, Rebecca Clarke and Madeleine Dring.
The final &Piano concert is all about song. Sarah Ogden will be exploring female voices, with a selection of American composer Aaron Copland’s Poems by Emily Dickinson, and some beautiful songs by female composers.
And Thom Meredith performs Dichterliebe by Robert Schumann, a cycle of poems by Heinrich Heine selected and set to music by Schumann to tell a tragic but classic story of unrequited love: the poet who loves a girl, and then discovers that she does not love him back. We’ll be performing this in its original language, German, but don‘t think you won’t understand it - we’ll be explaining the songs and the story, and we’ll provide a translation too.
This is will be a chance to hear some of the most beautiful and powerful music for voice and piano up-close, in a relaxed setting, where we can guide you through it all along the way.
