Elephantastic Project Horsham - 2015 July- charity Born Free
The press view for the Elephantastic is 20th July in Horsham:
Maps of two trails in the town centre and one around the beautiful West Sussex countryside will be available from participating shops for families to buy for £1 and get navigating throughout the summer.
Each completed trail form will be entered into a prize draw, to win a family holiday trip to an elephant orphanage in Nairobi, among a selection of other prizes including televisions, dining treats and jewellery.
John LeRossignol, of Horsham Rotary Club, said: “The countdown is on and there is already a real buzz in the town leading up to the elephant unveiling. We have been astounded by the level of interest and support in the project and now we can’t wait to start.”
Actor Brian Blessed will be at the launch showing his support for the Born Free Foundation, a main beneficiary of the project, alongside well know children’s entertainer Dave Benson Phillips.
The theme ‘Loving Life, in celebration of these unique animals, is aimed at raising awareness around the important preservation of this endangered species and to bring in funds to support the build of Born Free Foundation’s new elephant sanctuary in Tuscany, the first in Europe.
The elephants will each be placed in position after the launch, creating two safari trails in the town centre and one in the surrounding countryside.
A mini trail in neighbouring Billingshurst will also be available as well as those in Horsham until August 31.
Horsham Rotary Club created the charity fundraising project, with help from local traders’ organisation Horsham Unlimited, the district council and Billingshurst-based marketing agency PMW Communications.
With 128 elephant- owning companies now participating and 64 local charities alongside Born Free Foundation set to benefit from the proceeds, the project has more than tripled in size compared to the similar Giraffe project in Horsham in 2013.
Vic Reeves, Peter Andre, Freddy Flintoff and renowned wildlife artist Pollyanna Pickering are just some of the big names to show their support so far.
Many local artists including Lindsay Wright, Juliette Goddard and Zoe Keable are emerging as front runners for the autumn auction, when the pieces of elephant art will go under the hammer.
Thousands of visitors to Horsham’s annual Sparks in the Park event on Sunday were the first to see a few examples from the 185-strong Elephantastic herds.
