Otterton Mill Habit Art Otterton Mill
An innovative exhibition by established and emerging Devon based artists to highlight the important debates about our environment.
Local artists Bob Budd and Emma Brogan are showing alongside students Cleo Heard, Hilary Portman, Sara Shoney and with Geoff Jones a range of work
that dovetails habitat management with environmental art to produce 3-dimensional art works that are stand alone but also provide a new micro habitat.
Entry to exhibition is free and runs until 24th April.
The project has been awarded funding through the Sustainable Development Fund managed by East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and has been supported by a generous donation of wood from Devon Hardwoods in east Devon. “ We are thrilled the project has been recognized by East Devon ANOB Partnership for its strong environmental message and educational agenda” says Simon Spiller.
The exhibition was opened on the 11th April by radio four presenter Andrew Marr.
Otterton Mill is located between Budleigh Salterton and Sidmouth on the River Otter. It features a one thousand- year-old working watermill, celebrated restaurant, gallery and artist studios, artisan bakery, award winning food shop and music venue. Opening hours are 10.00am to 5.00pm daily.
Emma Brogan says "It has been great to get the opportunity to create a larger piece made from Cob. It is such a brilliant material to work with as it is so sculptural and tactile. I hope that it will enhance the habitat at Otterton Mill and will provide a comfortable place to enjoy the beauty of the River Otter."
Sara Shoney says “Basically mine is wild wanton and dedicated to Pan.
It flows in vortex like spirals to echo the river's movement”
Cleo Heard says "Working at Otterton Mill has inspired me to produce an educational artwork that discusses the role of water and our relationship with food, whilst considering the basic needs of humans and wildlife and the environmental connections between them"
