The way ahead for One Accord
ONE ACCORD
One Accord is a unique vocal performance group which evolved out of an Adult & Community Learning Singer’s Workshop in Paignton. We sang together as “The Bishop’s Place” Singers for 6 years, gradually building a strong reputation and a wide repertoire of songs. The group’s concerts include a wide range of musical styles and singers are involved in performing solos, duets and 4 part harmony choral singing. Our love of great music and the fun we have singing together is evident in our performances.
The group has performed successfully within Torbay for several years, raising several thousands of pounds for various charities. In 2008 we were part of the St Marychurch School Community Leap Year Day Concert at the Babbacombe Theatre, helping raise nearly £3,000 for Rowcroft Hospice. We have sung at Rowcroft’s outdoor “Light up a Life” Services for the past 2 Decembers.
We have been Adult Choir of the Year at the Torbay Music Festival for 5 years running and many of our members have won trophies as soloists there too.
Last Year.
In 2012 we were very busy with concerts which supported a range of worthy causes:
• A morning concert at the International Riviera Centre, Torquay to open the proceedings at a prestigious visiting Rotary Club Conference.
• A major concert at Dartington Hall on 16th June, jointly with the Military Wives Choir, for a packed audience, in aid of the Devon Royal British Legion.
• A sell out summer concert at Lupton House, Churston Ferrars, on 23rd June, supporting and advertising the restoration work at the beautiful Grade 2 listed building.
• A full concert at the Little Theatre, Torquay on 6th October, which drew a good audience and helped us raise funds to support our community charity work.
• At St Luke’s Church, Buckfastleigh on 10th November we performed a concert in support of the Royal British Legion.
• We have sung at St Andrew’s Church 2 years running, at concerts launching Paignton RBL’s annual Poppy Appeal
Current Year.
This year we are learning a completely new repertoire of 4 and 3 part harmony songs and solos, (details of which are still a carefully guarded secret!).
It is an exciting time for the group, which is currently working towards a Midsummer Concert at the Grand Hotel Torquay on Saturday 22nd June. We are using that concert to support the work of the local Animals in Distress Charity and hope to attract an audience of 200 or so.
Following the Grand Concert, we will be available to support the work of other local charities, by taking part in local events and performing concerts throughout the area.
