Northbrook Fashion Northbrook Fashion Textiles
BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary / Extended Diploma in Art & Design (Fashion)
The Course
In year one, projects cover a broad range of theoretical and practical skills relating to fashion and textile design including research skills, drawing and visual studies, design and concept development, fashion illustration, Photoshop, printed, knitted and embroidered textiles, pattern cutting and garment construction. These are supported by cultural and historical lectures, museum visits and study trips.
In year two, projects are designed to develop more advanced design and technical skills in fashion and textiles that prepare students to undertake an individual major project. This project work enables students to build a personal portfolio for progression on to university level and/or related employment.
In addition, students are able to research into a wide range of designers and companies through the use of specialist fashion and textile magazines, fabric library, videos, slides and CAD programmes.
Progression/Career Path
After 1 year at Level 3 you can achieve a BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Art & Design (Fashion & Clothing). Some students will seek employment but most will apply for the Extended Diploma course.
After 2 years at Level 3 you can achieve a BTEC Extended Diploma in Art & Design (Fashion & Clothing). This is equivalent to 3 A Levels. This means you can apply for university level courses. Students may also consider apprenticeships or other related employment in the fashion/textiles industry.
