Teresa West Artist

I am a local artist living in Ware in Hertfordshire. Having taught in local schools for many years I now have the opportunity to develop my own art work mainly focusing on on print making. Hand-made prints, which are experiments and explorations of different techniques, are complemented by collages created from decorative papers.
Observation and drawing are the foundation of ideas which follow themes of natural forms, landscape and local architecture. I am fascinated by the way that the mark of tools used build an expression of a place and an interpretation of an experience. Print making enables me to develop an image through different stages allowing for change and readjustment along the way. There is creative excitment in responding to the unexpected chance elements which occur during the process itself. I am not concerned about reproducing exact copies as in commercial printing, but rather aim to create individual prints which are a unique statement and variation on a theme. At exhibitions and fairs I enjoy explaining these processes and sharing my knowledge of this creative area.
