Voluntary Visitor Experience and Community Involvement Intern

This internship offers an excellent opportunity for a person looking to work in the field of Visitor experience with a focus on community involvement. Due to the planned Boathouse Project, there is an opportunity to work in liaison with several departments within the property team, including House and Collections, Visitor Experience, Volunteering and Community Involvement. The Boathouse is a key location on site at Greenway and is due for building restoration starting in 2015. As part of the process of improvements, new interpretation of the building is required. Reinterpretation of the site will be a dynamic process involving community groups and volunteer groups, and it is expected that alongside the Community Involvement Officer, the Intern will take responsibility for coordination of these groups and designing the process by which they can contribute to the new interpretation, as well as planning and developing the new materials associated with it.

Working within an enthusiastic visitor experience team you will experience a varied and busy area of the National Trust within a vibrant, dynamic and pioneering portfolio on the English Riviera inDevon. The properties and countryside offer a range of opportunities such as the holiday home of the much loved author Agatha Christie, the 1920’s country home of the D’Oyly Carte family, a true medieval fortress and a fascinating manor house. The team you will work with are both experienced and highly motivated.

What’s involved?

■Boathouse Interpretation Project development - an opportunity to assist with a project of new interpretation for the Boathouse situated at Greenway, building a specialised volunteer team and involving community groups to design, create and test the new interpretation for this important feature of the property. Working alongside the Community Involvement Officer (CIO) in creating the vision for this project and ensuring that it provides an engaging visitor experience and dovetails with wider changes to the visitor experience at the property by liaising with the Visitor Experience Manager.
■Working alongside the CIO help to organise and run other varied community involvement activities across the portfolio.
■ Working alongside the Visitor Services Manager assist with other programming and events.
■ Be responsible for the design, production and management of posters, banners and promotional material in connection with the requirements of the role.
■In co-ordination with other staff act as a champion and facilitator for visitor experience and community development within the portfolio.

Extra Information

Expenses: Reasonable expenses agreed in advance. Lunch provided or lunch expenses paid on working days as agreed in advance with Line Manager.

Accommodation is provided in a shared house in the locality.
