The third of the major new works for my most recent London exhibition, this work again plays with the nature of my media - a partially painted glass canvas is set within a white box frame allowing the multitude of stars and the painted figures themselves to create shadows that move and change with the available light. The seated figure dreaming in the suspended shell is yet another manifestation of 'that Alice girl' and her soft, painted look most reminiscent of the style of Croatian Naive work that inspired me towards this technique. As the phoenix flies away though, the brush strokes become crisper and more representative of both how I have actively developed the technique to reflect my own vision and how the technique has naturally evolved to meet my strengths.
