Marie Price - Clarinettist
I have experience of playing in pit bands and orchestras and am keen to get back into this. Clarinet is my first instrument and I can double on sax. I particularly enjoy G&S! I can also play the double bass.
Shows - Guys & Dolls, Wonderful Town, Chicago, Lock up your daughters, Cabaret, Cole, Oliver, Merry Widow, Die Fledermaus, La Belle Helene, La Vie Parisienne, Merrie England, plus most G&S repertoire.
I work as a Music Specialist at The Abbey Primary School in St Albans, and for the Herts Music Service teaching woodwind, recorder and choral singing.
I took a Music degree at Exeter University with clarinet as my main instrument, followed by a PGCE specialising in Primary Music. I qualified in 1987 but I was teaching woodwind and directing choirs for a number of years before that.
I have been teaching for Herts Music Service for over 12 years but previously I have taught in primary schools as a class teacher and music coordinator, in a secondary school teaching music and in a middle school for seven years as Head of Special Needs, while also keeping up my music teaching out of school.
My job with Herts is varied – as well as woodwind I have taught piano, string groups, recorder, double bass, guitar as well as singing teaching and choirs. I manage the resources part of the Music Service web site and undertake various other management activities such as moderating other teachers’ teaching and contributing to training. I am the co-ordinator for Music Medals.
I also run two voluntary choirs at St Albans Cathedral and I am Education and Training Officer for the Royal School of Church Music in the Herts and Beds area. I have taken over 500 pupils through grade exams from 1 to 8 with no fails in the last 20 years. About two thirds of my grade exam results are merits or distinctions, significantly above the average. I have entered over 200 for Music Medals all of whom have passed.
