Castle Drogo/Trust New Art - call for Expressions of Interest

Call out for Expressions of Interest from Artists/Designers/Architects

National Trust Castle Drogo wishes to appoint a socially engaged creative practitioner to work with us in 2017-2018 during the final phase of a major building conservation project. This is an opportunity to be part of a unique and ambitious project culminating in the creation of new work for display from March 2018. We want to work collaboratively to help us develop the next stage of our exciting interpretative plans, exploring new ways of looking at and thinking about the architecture, design, craftsmanship and stories of Castle Drogo.

The budget is £14,000 and is expected to cover all fees including any production and installation costs, travel and accommodation expenses. The deadline for submissions of Expressions of Interest is midnight on Friday 11 August 2017.

This commission will be part of Trust New Art (TNA), the National Trust’s programme of contemporary arts inspired by our places, in partnership with Arts Council England. The programme makes contemporary arts available in National Trust places; builds new and diverse audiences; and offers new opportunities to artists to work in new contexts.

Castle Drogo, with its magnificent buildings, gardens and estate set high on the edge of Dartmoor is a place of stunning design, inspiration and wild beauty. The stories of the self-made millionaire Julius Drewe and his family, the internationally renowned architect Sir Edwin Lutyens and the craftsmen who built the castle from 1911-1930 have captured the imaginations of visitors young and old.
