Four afternoons: Thursdays 1.30-4.00 – Nov 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th

An innovative, exciting course for beginners and more experienced artists. Learn the language of colour: hues, values and intensity. Explore the different emotional effects of colour through form, texture, music, composition and abstraction.
Apply learning to your own themes.

Week 1 Thurs Nov 8th: Introduction to the essence of colour
Exploring which colours you connect to most and least
Emotional effects of different colours The art of mixing colours – the colour wheel - hues, values, intensity. Abstract art and painting the essence of something you see or know about and then of something of your choice. Consider a theme to work on over the 4 weeks

Week 2 Thurs Nov 15th: Colour in form
Painting colour within form – examples of different artists – form and colour for itself. How colours in different forms and compositions affect emotions differently. Apply the learning to your relationship with people you know or a self portrait or a theme of your choice

Week 3 Thurs Nov 22nd: Expressive colour
Colour in abstract expressionism and examples of different artists. Colour and music – paint to a selection of different music genres considering in relation to colour, form, shape, texture. Apply to your favourite music (please bring with to listen to). Collect textures and colours from magasines before the following week

Week 4 Thurs Nov 29th: Colour in Collage
Make textured and coloured rubbings – sort into colour categories including materials from magasines.
Create a collage with your collected textures applied to a theme of your choice

About your tutor
Lorna Carmen McNeill is a practicing artist who combines drawing, painting, sculpture, kinetic light installation, film and photography with interactive
technologies. Having completed a foundation course and further study in fine art at Camberwell and Goldsmiths and a BSc Hons degree as a Health professional,
she then obtained the Diploma in Fine Art at the Art Academy with a First and received an award for her research and innovations into light sculptures. She has had works selected, commissioned and exhibited nationally for a number of locations including KPMG, Nesta, Futurefest, the Barbican, Womad, e-Luminate, Kinetica and the Hospital Club, The Curve, and Canary Wharf Light Festival. She has been awarded two Arts Council Grants to fund Residencies at Wac Arts and the Langley Academy. For more information: www.LornaCarmenMcneill.com

What Should I bring to each session?:

A range of different sized brushes for use with acrylic paint, including a decorators 2” brush

Ensure you wear old clothing and bring an apron as you may get messy!
