We are delighted to announce our newest Artist in Residence… Luke Newell will be at Ware Library in April and May.

Luke is an accomplished illustrator, artist and animator with over 20 years of experience as a professional artist. He is a published author and illustrator and has over 10 years’ experience working on video games. Luke will be hosting a varied programme of creative events that you and your family can get involved with:

Tuesday 15 April, 10.30am-12.30pm: Drawing with the Kids
During our regular Baby Rhyme Time sessions Luke will be on hand to offer this creative drawing drop in for parent and baby. Learn new techniques to draw with your little ones and meet other local families. This free event is suitable for all ages and abilities.

Saturday 26 April, 12.30-4.30pm: Hello Animators
Ever wanted your drawings to be animated? Learn how to draw basic animations and contribute to Luke’s ‘Walk in Ware’ collaborative video. Add your favourite memories of your town and be part of a final piece of animation made by Luke. This free event is suitable for all ages and abilities and we’d love to hear from as many different people with local memories as possible. Drop in any time during the event to add your stories.

Tuesday 29 April, 4-5.30pm: Level Up Your Character Design
Join our Artist in Residence to learn how to level up your character design. Learn from published illustrator and animator, Luke Newell, and explore new drawing techniques. Suitable for children aged 5-12 of all abilities. This event is free but places must be reserved at the library.

Wednesday 21 May, 7-9pm – From Cave Painting to Pixar: A Crash Course in Storytelling Pictures
Join Luke Newell for a fun, relaxing and vibrant evening crash course in drawing. Learn different drawing techniques and how to express your creativity with paper and pen. This event is suitable for ages 18+ and tickets are £5 per person. Tickets can be booked through the library or online.

Tuesday 6 May, 4-5.30pm – Drawing Comics
Join Luke Newell to learn to the basics of storytelling and comic drawing. Explore emotions, tones and action to create your own storyboards. Suitable for children aged 11-18 of all abilities. This event is free but places must be reserved at the library.

Saturday 31 May – Walk in Ware Video Launch
Join us for the unveiling of Luke’s final ‘Walk in Ware’ video, made of animations made by residency participants. Workshops attendees will be adding their favourite spots in Ware to Luke’s video to champion the town and its stories. The video will be on display in the library throughout this Saturday for you all to watch.
