Seeking artists for Hertfordshire Library Centenary Activities

Seeking artists for Hertfordshire Library Centenary Activities

In collaboration with the Hertfordshire Library Service Centenary, My Story have three exciting opportunities for Hertfordshire artists:

Waltham Cross Library Community Collaboration Project

As part of their Big Birthday Weekend celebrations on 7th June, Waltham Cross Library are inviting an artist to host a collaborative community art project. The artist will design a scroll that celebrates 100 years of Hertfordshire Libraries that can then be completed by library visitors over the following months.

Before the launch the artist would design the scroll so that it can be added to with collage by anyone visiting for a creative event in the library over the summer. The Waltham Cross Library team have expressed a preference that the scroll centre around an open book with the building of Waltham Cross Library spreading out from it. Around this library building would be depictions of our regular activities such as musical notes for Baby Rhyme Time, LEGO bricks/minifigures, PCs, hublets, board games, books etc.

The artist would then host the launch event on 7th June and invite people to add contributions to the scroll during a 2 hour event from 10am-12pm. The scroll will then be added to at several staff run sessions with collage from recycled books and magazines as well as other sustainable materials.

After the scroll has been added to by local community groups and library visitors, the artist would then put finishing touches to the piece to make it ready to be installed at Waltham Cross Library as a permanent fixture.

Details:
• Open to artists with experience of sketching, drawing, collage and/or design
• Open to artists with experience of hosting community events
• ½ day to design the initial scroll, ½ day on 7th June, ½ day to complete the scroll

We anticipate this opportunity requiring 1.5 days of work in total. This opportunity would be paid at Artist Union England rates, a maximum of £42 per hour for £473 total (depending on experience). Materials will be provided separately.

Please email mystory@hertfordshire.gov.uk with a summary of your proposed style for this design and your relevant experience by 7th May.

Baldock Library Adult Art Event

As part of their 100 years of Herts Library Service celebrations, Baldock Library would like to host a creative art event for local adults to take part in a hands-on creative activity. Baldock has a thriving creative community, and the library would like to offer something exciting and tactile in the library.

The event would be:
• For all abilities, ages 18+
• For up to 12 adults
• Hosted during the day, on a weekday, in the month of June
• Open to any art or creative technique or practise
• Be relevant to 100 years celebrations
• Up to 2 hours for the event at 2 hours for planning/prep

We anticipate this event needing a maximum of 4 hours of work. This opportunity would be paid at Artist Union England rates, a maximum of £42 per hour for £168 total (depending on experience). Materials will be provided separately.

Please email mystory@hertfordshire.gov.uk with a summary of your proposed event and your relevant experience by 9th May.

100 Years of Hertfordshire Library Service

Many library across Hertfordshire will be hosting exciting celebration events on our Big Birthday Weekend on 7th/8th June. As part of the celebrations we would like to offer each library a specially created colouring sheet or activity plan that can be offered to all library visitors.

We would like to invite an artist to either:
• Create a colouring sheet that can be put out in any library countywide
• Create a design that champions libraries and the wide range of services we offer
• Submit the final design in digital form as PDF or PNG

OR:
• Create an activity plan that can be completed by library visitors
• Create instructions for how to complete the activity
• Create a resource list (ideally not a resource heavy activity as there will be no staff member there to manage resources)
• Create a prototype or design of the intended finished outcome so library visitors can have an idea of what they’re aiming towards

We anticipate this opportunity requiring 3 hours. This opportunity would be paid at Artist Union England rates, a maximum of £42 per hour for £126 total (depending on experience).

Please email mystory@hertfordshire.gov.uk with a description of your activity or what your colouring sheet design would look like and your relevant experience by 9th May. Please send your idea for review before commencing the 3 hours of work.
