Rainforest Singing Workshop with Su Hart
Rainforest Singing Workshop with Su Hart of Baka Beyond
10 til 4 pm
£40 (a limited number of concessions available on request)
Join inspirational singing leader Su Hart for a day of singing, rhythm and much more.
For 25 years Su has been visiting the Baka Rainforest People in Central Africa and learning from their unbroken musical culture - and this has inspired this joyful singing workshop. The Baka are thought to be the first humans to sing. Their rainforest singing style builds community, traditionally helping to heal illness and argument, soothe babies and enchant the animals ensuring luck in the hunt. It is a beautiful interlocking of sound and is simple, accessible, rhythmic and fun - fun for singers or fun even if you think you are not a singer. Su is initiated by the Baka women to share this singing and royalties go back to them for projects in the forest.
The workshop builds co-operation by enhancing your listening and rhythm skills and is great for creating blend - plus you learn new singing techniques like rainforest yodelling! As well as traditional songs and rhythms you will get to try some on Su's original compositions, inspired both by the Baka people and composers like Meredith Monk.
