Routes into Teaching - Gamelan
Wed 31 January 2018
09:30 – 15:30
For instrumental tutors, classroom tutors and community musicians interested to learn more about teaching Gamelan, a traditional Balinese/Javanese ensemble based around tuned percussion.
The gentle, beautiful sounds and interlocking parts offer an inclusive, accessible and meditative community musical experience for young people of all abilities.
In Bali, it’s used with dance and storytelling as part of rituals to balance positive and negative spirits. The session will use the Stevenage Gamelan set and we hope may also offer ideas to develop WCET practice.
The day will combine conversations, participatory workshops, and chances to make music.
A networking lunch will be provided.
