Meet the author: Rick Stein
Following a sell-out evening in 2009, Rick returns for a second visit to talk about his new autobiography Under a Mackerel Sky - a wry, perceptive and brilliantly evocative memoir. The formative years of one of our best-loved cooks were shaped by the Oxfordshire farm where he was brought up, and his family's much loved holiday home in Cornwall. But ever-present were the black moods of his bi-polar father who committed suicide when Rick was only 18 and precipitated his escape for two years to Australia. He'll be revealing how he overcame this early trauma to build an impressive career - initially as a restaurateur and entrepreneur; and later as a broadcaster, food champion and writer.
There will be the usual opportunity for the audience to ask questions and at the end of the evening Rick will sign copies of his new book which will be available to purchase at a special discounted price.
