Discover in a Day: Arts Award Creative Summer School
Monday 22 & Tuesday 23 August
Heritage Quay, University of Huddersfield
Open to children aged 12+. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
Join us for a two-day exploration of sound and visual arts inspired by the University of Huddersfield and hcmf// archives at Heritage Quay, working with artist Alison Cooper and industry specialists from hcmf//. By taking part in these creative workshops you can gain an Arts Award qualification which is recognised by schools, colleges and universities.
Monday 22 August, 10am – 3pm: Learn how to make recordings of your environment
Throughout the day we will:
● Record interesting everyday sounds
● Record underwater sounds
● Use professional recording equipment
● Learn to use the recordings in new, inspiring ways
● Be inspired by the musicians’ work held in the archive
● Behind the scenes tour of the archive
Tuesday 23 August, 10am – 3pm: Zine-making workshop
Throughout the day we will:
● Explore the British Music Collection for inspiration
● Make a zine using a variety of visual art techniques
● Learn about print making and collage
● Learn about and have a go at making graphic scores
● You’ll complete your Arts Award booklet on this day
To gain the Arts Award qualification you’ll need to attend on both days, but if you’d like to take part on one day only then please get in touch.
