Three artists present a bright, colourful exhibition of paintings inspired by nature and the local landscape and coastline. Cherry Lyons, Wendy Chudley and Jenni Pentecost show a new collection of paintings in oils, acrylics, watercolours and pastels.
During the exhibition, there will be regular demonstrations of techniques involving adding texture to watercolour and oil paintings. See www.harbourhouse.org.uk for full details.
“Colour and texture have a lasting effect on everyone's lives, and are particularly relevant to us as artists. Nature offers us a rich tapestry of colours and textural glory in every season of the year and in each facet of the land, hedgerow, riverside or seascape. Embarking on a voyage of discovery with colour and texture, we capture the drama and essence of place in our paintings, whether realistic or imaginary.”
Wendy Chudley is particularly inspired by light and mood, and enjoys experimenting with colour, sometimes layering, and sometimes limiting her palette to evoke the nostalgia of monochrome photographs. Her themes include seascape, landscape, nature and wildlife, and she works in watercolour, pastels and Artisan oils.
Cherry Lyons is an experimental watercolour, oil, acrylics, pastel and mixed media artist. She particularly enjoys the risks and challenges of unpredictable and spontaneous watercolour techniques. Cherry adds texture to her work by collaging with organic elements, and her themes include the sea, landscapes and wildlife from her worldwide travels.
Jenni Pentecost draws inspiration from nature and the coastline of the West Country, and is particularly interested in seasonal changes in colour, light and mood. She works mainly in oils and pastels, and enjoys experimenting with new techniques.
