Natural Elements
Lyn Whiteman is a contemplative painter, and her work is an expression of thoughts and feelings in response to her subject matter, which includes landscape, seascape, abstracts and floral. There is an innate freedom and looseness in her approach, and she includes Kurt Jackson, Matisse, Turner and Monet amongst her influences.
Light, shade, colour and intensity are her concerns, and she works in oils, acrylics, acrylic inks, watercolours, pastels, and mixed media on canvas, paper and silk. Recent works are increasingly abstract.
Lyn works alla prima, which allows her to minimise mark-making and complete a work in a relatively short time. Her aim is for an observer to have an opportunity to be moved by her work in some way, and for the joy of life and love of nature to be felt and experienced through her paintings.
After the exhibition Lyn will donate 10% of her takings to the Centre for Peaceful Restoration, Recovery and Recuperation:

In 2014 Lyn was shortlisted for the British Oldie Artists Awards, and has been accepted as a Member of the Floral Painters’ Society.
Lyn studied at Amersham and Wycombe College and has taught in adult education as well as privately. She has taken part in Buckinghamshire and Dorset Open Studios events, and has exhibited at the Mall Galleries, the Grand Palais de Champs Elysees in Paris, and various venues in Buckinghamshire and New Zealand.
Lyn now runs art, self-development and relaxation workshops through Neutral Space Relaxation, a business she has set up with her husband, Graham.
She will run an Art and Relaxation workshop at Harbour House over the weekend of 16 and 17 May 2015.
