Outline South West
The South West Coast Path through the Eyes of a Printmaker.
Printmaking, painting, mixed media and photography, and the launch of Anita Reynolds' new book.
The 56 daily prints from the South West Coast Path walk will be on display alongside current colour works from the project. There will also be an ‘off the peg’ section showing prints made at the portable press in Anita’s Print Bus, and she will have the press in the gallery at Harbour House.
Between 2012 and 2014 Anita Reynolds walked the 630 miles of the South West Coast Path from Minehead to Poole. Throughout the walk she completed extensive sketchbook studies and each day produced a drypoint plate which she printed on her return to the studio. The exhibition includes the 56 daily prints, dramatic monochrome reminders of cliffs and gorse, seabirds and tin mines. From her sketchbook work she has also developed a series of monoprints which show a flavour of the colours of the walk through the seasons.
“My walking journey has reached its conclusion but the artwork continues. I realised during the very early stages of the project that it was a massive undertaking and that all the things I have seen would provide enough material for several lifetimes’ work. I am now developing the sketches and ideas in the studio and plan to revisit certain locations that I was particularly drawn to.
During the project I have also learnt a huge amount about myself as an artist and it has clarified my motivations and philosophies behind why I am driven to produce artwork. I have found that I am inspired by prolonged periods of focus where enough time is present to allow for a deeper understanding of place.”
Printmaking from the Outline South West project has previously been exhibited at the Devon Guild of Craftsmen and National Trust Cotehele as well as at Harbour House.
