Canto

An exhibition of paintings, drawings and mixed media works by David Hamling.

Opening View: Tuesday 18 September, 6 - 8 pm

"I have no particular interest in either abstraction of figuration for its own sake, and often utilise both facets in one piece. The work for this show has been divided into three sections: the view within, the view without and the view beyond. I have consciously employed three completely different processes in order to demonstrate what I consider to be the most appropriate method for each.

I consider there to be a very close association between visual art and music and I try to give the work some of the autonomy enjoyed by music, hence the title Canto.

Thus the interiors are clean, crisp and simple, the exteriors utilise a textural process and the more cosmic work a freedom beyond the norm."
